Things To Do
There are many things to see and do in and around Nerja. here
are a few suggestions
The foothills
of the Sierra Aljimara mountains meet the sea near Nerja and there are many
hiking trails in the mountains at all levels of difficulty. The best known of
the many hill villages is Frigiliana, famous for the sweet wines made only in
the village.
Less than two hours drive through the towering mountains of
Sierra Nevada lies the city of Granada and the magnificent Alhambra Palace. In
season (December - May) a day trip to the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada makes
an interesting diversion.
The Caves of Nerja are situated 6 km from the town. They
contain some of the finest stalagmite formations on public view in Europe.
For those interested in the
past, the area abounds in traces of Arab and Roman occupation. At Maro, a
fishing village 6 km from Nerja, a well preserved Roman aqueduct may be
seen.
Speaking of aquaducts, the latest attraction is the Aqua Velis water park at
Torre del Mar,10 minutes drive along the coast towards Malaga.
